Dear Families,

As many of you are aware, the government’s bargaining association (TEBA) issued a lockout notice yesterday for all public sector teachers across Alberta. This includes classroom teachers, school-based administrators, and teachers in other roles. This development was anticipated following the strike notice.

We want to reassure you that both the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) and TEBA continue to have discussions. We remain hopeful that a fair and timely resolution can be reached and that students and staff can return to classrooms as soon as possible.

Supporting Families

We recognize that times of educational disruption can place extra pressure on families. If your family could use some support, please reach out to local community resources such as Family & Community Support Services (FCSS), local food banks, libraries, museums, or recreation centres. If you have a connection with a Family/School Liaison (FSL) worker, you can continue to contact them by email to arrange a time for a phone call. We want to ensure that we provide information related to where you can access resources that you may need.

Staying in Touch

All Black Gold schools will remain closed until the end of the strike. Beginning Wednesday, October 8, school phone lines will only receive voice messages. If families need to contact the school, they may contact their school through email. The school’s email address is listed at the bottom of each school’s homepage. Questions related to regular school processes — including registrations, fee payments or reimbursements, and newsletters — will be reviewed and addressed once schools reopen and school administration returns.

We will continue to share updates and helpful information on our website at www.blackgold.ca/Labour- Action-Updates.

We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Our goal remains the same: to ensure that when classes resume, we can return to learning environments that are caring, engaging, and focused on student success.

With appreciation,

Black Gold School Division
