*Effective September 1, 2025, Alberta Education increased the distance eligibility for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students from 1 km to 1.6 km. However, school boards who implemented the 1 km eligibility distance in the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years will receive one year of transition funding for K-Gr.. 6 students who ride the bus and live between 1 km to 1.59 km from the school they are attending.

*Effective September 1, 2026, K-Gr. 6 students who live less than 1.6 km from the school they are attending will be considered Ineligible students for transportation.

**Alberta Education does not provide any transportation funding for ineligible students.

⏰ Option 1: Pay Now (At Least 50%)

Instructions:

  1. Log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal
  2. Click on Student Fees and Forms in the sidebar
  3. Select your student and open the Transportation Application form
  4. Choose a minimum payment option and complete the form
  5. Select 'Add to Cart'
  6. Go to your shopping cart and complete your payment

⛔ You must pay at least 50% of your transportation fee at the time of application.
If you don’t, your application won’t be received by Transportation.
• The remaining balance is due by February 1, 2026
• You can pay online, at the school, or in person at the Division Office by credit, debit, or exact cash only. Please note that neither schools nor the Division Office are able to provide change.
• If you pay in person, you must also complete a paper registration form

Please note:
The online transportation application requires a minimum online payment to be processed.
🚫 Credit card payments cannot be accepted over the phone

🗓️ Option 2: Monthly Payment Plan (For Fees Over $150)

If your transportation fee is over $150, you may choose a monthly payment plan
(Available for October–February)

Instructions:

  1. Log into the PowerSchool Parent Portal
  2. Click on Student Fees and Forms in the sidebar
  3. Select your student
  4. Select Transportation Payment Plan Option and check the box labeled ‘Proceed with payment plan’
  5. Return to Student Fees and Forms, select Transportation Application-Students (Payment Plan), complete the form, and 'Add to Cart'
  6. Go to your shopping cart and click Payment Plan under payment options
  7. Enter your Method of Payment and click Create Plan
  8. Your payment plan will be created — but your form will not be submitted until you return to your shopping cart and complete your first payment.
⛔ Transportation will not receive your application unless the first payment is submitted.
The final payment is due by February 1, 2026

Transportation Refunds

Black Gold School Division offers full-year transportation service only.
There are no part-time, temporary, or winter-only options, and fees are based on full-year use.

Refunds are not available after the first day of school, except in the following situations:
• The student leaves the Division before the end of the school year
 – Fee will be prorated based on the number of months transportation was used
• The student becomes eligible after paying as an ineligible rider
 – Fee will be adjusted accordingly
• A new student registers for transportation after the school year begins
 – Fee will be prorated if the student is new to the Division

Please note: Refunds are not issued for families choosing to use transportation part-time or only during winter months.

Overpayment Transfers

Overpayments can be transferred directly through your PowerSchool Parent Portal.

You can apply your overpayment to:
• Transportation fees
• Summer school fees
• Division technology fees
• Sibling accounts within the same family

How to transfer an overpayment:

  1. Log into your PowerSchool account: Parent Login
  2. Click Student Fees and Forms in the left-hand menu
  3. Click the Menu button (top right of the screen)
  4. Select Transfer Money
     – A pop-up menu will appear
  5. Choose the account or school to transfer the credit to

Your overpayment will now be available to use in the selected school or fee area.
